Privacy Policy

Vid2Podcast ("we", "us", "our") is a Chrome extension that converts YouTube video transcripts into audio and provides AI-powered summaries. We take your privacy seriously.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service:

• Email address — only when you sign in with Google to activate a Pro license. Used solely for license verification.
• License status — stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local. Not transmitted to our servers.
• TTS requests — text you request to be converted to speech is sent to our backend proxy, which forwards it to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API. We do not log or store this text.

What data we do NOT collect

• We do not store your transcripts.
• We do not track which YouTube videos you watch.
• We do not sell your data to third parties.
• We do not use cookies or tracking pixels on this website.
• We do not retain browsing history.

Third-party services

Vid2Podcast uses the following third-party services:

• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API — to generate audio from text. Text is sent to Google's servers to produce audio. See Google Cloud Privacy Notice.
• Google Translate API — to translate transcripts. Text is sent to Google for translation.
• YouTube Data — transcripts are fetched directly from YouTube's caption API. We do not store them.
• Polar.sh — payment processing for Pro licenses. See Polar Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In — for license verification only. We receive your email address.

Local storage

The extension stores the following data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local:

• Your plan status (free/pro)
• Settings (language, voice, gender preferences)
• Daily AI usage counters
• Conversion history (stored only on your device)

This data never leaves your browser unless explicitly exported by you.

Chrome permissions

Vid2Podcast requests the following Chrome permissions:

• storage — to save your settings and history locally.
• tabs — to detect the current YouTube video URL.
• scripting — to inject the widget button into YouTube pages.
• sidePanel — to display the extension panel alongside YouTube.
• identity — to authenticate with Google for Pro license verification.

Data retention

We do not retain any personal data on our servers beyond what is required for license verification (email address). TTS requests are not logged. You can delete all locally stored data by removing the extension.

Children's privacy

Vid2Podcast is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above.
